I loved to stop at the whale and ale when ever I am in San Pedro as I feel I am at Cheers. I love the piano man rob and the food is great.

We were first introduced to the Whale and Ale when we purchased a combo of theatre tix at Little Fish Theatre across the alley and dinner at the Whale and Ale for $50. We have since brought out of town (and State) guests and have sampled lunch (Portabello mushroom sandwich - yum!! our vegetarian relatives were most appreciative) and dinner (many choices over the years), beer and wine.

We haven't yet come to listen to the Friday night pianist but hope to shortly.

Service is usually excellent and quite friendly. One time though there was only one server, tho she handled our table smilingly and personably.

All in all, a charming restaurant with a lot to offer.

I've been going to The Whale and Ale for a few years now and I LOVE LOVE LOVE their Fish & Chips...best in town! Now...that said...their other foods are hit and miss and the service is the same...hit and miss, depending on the server's mood I think and how well dressed you are or how well you overlook the sticky tables, lack of drink refills, slow service, and meat that always comes over cooked, unless it comes raw.

It sounds like I should not go back and that no one should, but that's not the case...they actually have responded well to my comments on the sticky tables, they have really scrubbed them and they are great now. And the badly cooked meat is followed up with a lovely dessert or a sorry from the owner, if he's there. The service...well that has never been very good but I think it adds to the ambiance...makes it more authentic to a true Welsh Pub.

Worth the effort but make sure to go there with your eyes WIDE open and speak up if things aren't to your liking!

We like to walk along the waterfront and then have lunch at the Wale & Ale with a pint of Guinness. Most of the time I order the Salmon Salad. Love their bread too. They have good dinners also and old time Jazz on some evenings.

The Whale and Ale - A special place with special people. Not only is the atmosphere special, the cuisine is fantastic, the owner is one of the nicest people to meet, and the vision to keep the establishment open past closing for the enjoyment of the customers is truly visionary, making the Whale and Ale a true asset to the San Pedro mystique. Make the Whale and Ale a must place to visit on your next visit to San Pedro to experience it yourself.

The food at the Whale & Ale is on the high side, but the quality of the food by far exceeds the cost. I also love the atmosphere. The restaurant takes you out of the real world and into an old English Pub setting with delightful scents and a warm, inviting staff. I love the Whale & Ale and look forward to spending many special occasions here.

Rob Klopfenstein rocks the house almost every Friday night at the Whale and Ale. Andrew serves up delicious food and don't get me started about the fabulous brews. Become a regular like me. Sometimes I walk over, sometimes I ride my bike, but I'll see you there!

We frequent this restaurant for the quality of food, reasonable price, and

excellent service. A wide choice of wines and ales add to the dining

choices. The sea bass is outstanding. Live music, especially Rob at the

piano on Friday evenings, adds to the ambiance. Highly recommended

As a constant traveler, I always enjoy coming home to my studio with a head full of ideas. And when I want a good meal, in a cheery atmosphere,I walk down the street to the Whale and Ale. And they have good Newcastle Ale.

I have been going to the Whale & Ale for over 15 years. The people are friendly, the food is good and Friday nites with Rob(piano) and friends are my favorite time. You can come alone or with a group and you will fit right in. It's an entertaining evening and the cost is very reasonable for what you receive.

This is one of the best Southbay, Long Beach,

San Pedro restaurants because of the very

effective hands-on and personal attention by

Andrew Silber,

owner. He has worked very hard to provide a

real British Pub experience with outstanding

food, good pricing, friendly and knowledgeable

wait staff. Frequently there is entertainment

on weekends, and always special holiday and

event menus. If you want to experience a real

British pub and great food, this is the place.

Excellent in all the ways that count. Their Civic consciousness is nice to

find in any community. They go to considerable trouble with special

events in their restaurant, as well as including special cultural things

going on in the community. Their entertainment is first rate. And any

place with good bread pudding gets an extra star in my book. It suggests

that I comment on what you dislike as well. I had to think on it, and I

believe it might be how hot it gets up stairs when the place is full. Which

is most of the time I'm there. So

ventilate and keep up the good work, the good food and the good times.

The Whale and Ale is one of the best places to eat in San Pedro. They serve true English pub food and American entrees. Everytime we dine their the owner comes around and inquires about the meal. The waitress, Gale is the best!

The Whale & Ale's bona fides ought to stand on

their own: voted best fish & chips in Southern

California and a long history of loyal

customers. What may not be so clear is that

Whale & Ale is not a neighborhood hole-in-the-

wall pub, found in so many English boroughs; it

is a gastropub, a modern interpretation of

traditional British food with gourmet

ingredients. The bangers are particular

favorites because they are quality sausages,

well-prepared. It would be difficult for any

steakhouse to best the filet mignon with Maytag

blue cheese. And the bar is first rate, fully

stocked. I always like to point out that the

team at the Whale & Ale knows how to pour a

perfect black & tan (while noting that as a

great achievement for a British pub, since both

ingredients are IRISH). Andrew Silber is a good

proprietor who has been quite generous to this

town. That alone is reason to support his

establishment, but the food and drink make it

very worthwhile.
